KATAFYGIO/SHELTER

Roel Nollet // 2016 // 28 min

At least 1200 unaccompanied minor refugees in Greece are on a waiting list to get into appropriate shelters. And that's just the official number. They live on the street, in parks, on squares and in squats. Alone. Without the help of civil society organizations (such as Faros and Metadrasi) these children are surrendered to the laws of the street, violence and human traffickers. Some will end up in prostitution. Greece is in the stranglehold of a financial crisis. And winter is coming." Katafygio is Greek for 'shelter', a safe place to stay.
