A Girl’s Gaze

Anke Dirix // Roel Nollet // 2021 // 26 min

Malawi is being hit by climate change. Due to major floods and extreme drought, a large part of the harvest fails year after year. Famine makes girls and women extra vulnerable. To escape poverty, almost half of the girls gets married before they are eighteen, even though it is illegal. Too much of them end up in prostitution and human trafficking. The Covid-19 pandemic has only worsened the situation. Local organization Chance for Change Malawi works hard to get them out.

A documentary by Anke Dirix & Roel Nollet in cooperation with Ezaius Mkandawire

Realised with the support of Fonds Pascal Decroos voor bijzondere journalistiek, Equator and the Belgian Development Cooperation.
